Brief Introduction
Founded in 1956 and headquartered in Shenyang, LAAS is the only comprehensive agricultural research institution at the provincial level in Liaoning province that covers a wide range of research fields, including field cropping, forestry, fishery, agricultural machinery, grain storage, food processing and other related fields. Currently, LAAS oversees 8 administrative departments and 35 research institutes. The research and policy work at the academy cover a broad range of topics that have been categorized as 10 disciplinary clusters, which can be further divided into 96 focused fields and 231 research focuses. The 10 disciplinary clusters include Crop Science, Horticulture Science, Forestry, Fishery, Animal Husbandry, Plant Protection, Agricultural Resources and Environment, Agricultural product quality and processing, Agricultural Machinery, Agricultural Information and rural economy. LAAS mainly carries out the new variety selection of grain and oil crops, vegetables, fruit trees, livestock and poultry, aquatic products, forest trees, flowers, tussah, edible fungi , as well as the collection, preservation, evaluation and innovation of germplasm resources. At the same time it also carries out research of cultivation technology, dry farming, water conservation, agricultural machinery, grain storage, food processing, agricultural resources and environment and agricultural information and economics. As a non-profit research academy, LAAS has the responsibility of supporting the modern agriculture in Liaoning Province. By working closely with local governments, agro-industries, agricultural cooperatives and farmers through partnership, providing technical support and training and onsite demonstrations, LAAS has contributed greatly to the development of local economy.
